Sixth Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the United Nations Peace Fund for Nepal

The United Nations Peace Fund for Nepal (UNPFN) was established in March 2007 to complement the Government’s Nepal Peace Trust Fund (NPTF) and mobilize resources for activities of clear, short-term relevance to the peace process. This Sixth Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the UNPFN reports on the implementation of projects approved for funding as of 31 December 2012, both funded directly by the UNPFN as well as projects funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).

The brochure shows the key components that require assistance and financial support from both national and international stakeholders for the completion of the Kenzo Tange Master Plan in Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Completion of the Master Plan is needed to fully develop Lumbini into a major tourism and pilgrimage centre.

Multi sectoral Nutrition Programs in Nepal

The Government of Nepal (GoN) is committed to scaling up a set of evidence-based nutrition interventions through its Multisectoral Nutrition Plan (MSNP) to reduce the inter generational transmission of stunting. The MSNP was developed by the National Planning Commission (NPC) in close collaboration with the five Ministries involved in its delivery, namely the Ministry of Agriculture Development (MoAD), the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD).

Country Programme Action Plan 2013- 2017

The Government of Nepal and UNDP signed a new Country Programme Action Plan (2013-17) detailing UNDP’s engagement in Nepal for the next five years. The Plan focuses on efforts to reduce vulnerability of communities under threat from climate change and disaster and expanding energy access, while continuing its support for elections, constitution writing and income generating opportunities. During this period a budget of approximately USD 159 million will be used for implementing these programmes.

Environmental impact assessment of industrial development around Lumbini, the birthplace of the Lord Buddha, world heritage property

The industries in the Bhairahawa-Lumbini road, the area along the highway between Bhairahawa and Lumbini in Nepal’s Rupandehi District, have a major impact on water, soil, air, flora and fauna, health and heritage of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, says a study conducted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Nepal, on behalf of UNESCO. The study thus, recommends banning carbon emitting industries such as cement, steel and brick producing factories.

Tools For the Assesment of School And Hospital Safety for Multi-Hazards in South Asia

The toolkit is a joint effort by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UN-Habitat ROAP) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Asia Pacific Secretariat in partnership with the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Disaster Management Centre (SDMC). The Governments of India, Nepal and Pakistan rendered a wide range of support.
