The approach to this review was modelled substantially on Rapid Appraisal principles USAID 1996). Given the constraints of time and resource, this was seen as an appropriate means in seeking answers to the significant questions associated with the key elements in this assignment. The data gathering process drew on published and unpublished documentation, individual and group interviews with key informants drawn from across the spectrum of stakeholder interests.

Nepal – A Country Analysis with a Human Face 2011

Embarking on a Common Country Assessment (CCA) is the first step undertaken by United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs) when preparing for a forthcoming programming cycle. The CCA is intended to provide insights into key development challenges facing a country; these are then addressed in a multiyear United Nations Development Assistance Framework or UNDAF, which is the next step in the process and outlines the key areas of work for the years ahead. A CCA is typically organized around particular themes or sectors.

Fifth Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the United Nations Peace Fund for Nepal

The United Nations Peace Fund for Nepal (UNPFN) was established in March 2007, at the request of donors and the Government of Nepal (GoN), as a complement to the Governmentfs Nepal Peace Trust Fund (NPTF). The UNPFN was established to mobilize resources for activities of clear, short]term relevance to the peace process where these are not possible to be funded or implemented through the NPTF or other existing mechanisms or programmes.

Youth and The United Nations in Nepal

In 2008 the UN Country Team (UNCT) set up the United Nations Youth Advisory Panel (UNYAP). The UNYAP is a part of the UNCT’s commitment to young people’s empowerment and rights in accordance with basic human rights principles. The purpose of the UN Youth Advisory Panel is to serve as a platform for dialogue and information sharing between young people in Nepal and the UN Country Team.

Nepal Peace and Development Strategy 2010-2015

Nepal’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) sets out a peace-building framework for Nepal’s development partners through its ambitious, transformational agenda on equity, inclusion, accountability, good governance and a restructuring of the state. While elaborated in a political agreement, these ‘root causes’ need to be concretely addressed through long-term development processes and interventions.In recognition of this reality, Nepal’s development partners have developed this Peace and Development Strategy.

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion :Independent Evaluation (UNDAF)

The United National Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) evaluation of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) was commissioned by the UN RCHCO and carried out between mid- January 2011 and February 2011. The evaluation was conducted in parallel to the preparation of the progress report for 2010, and concurrently with an associated but separate evaluation of the UNDAF 2008-2010.

Stigma Fuels HIV: Reporting on the Campaign in Asia and the Pacific

Description of campaign launch, achievements, anecdotes, and other highlights. (250 words max) The campaign in Nepal was officially launched during the World AIDS Day 2011. In front of over 200 UN staff, family members and supporters, Ms. Shoko Noda, UNDP Country Director and Chair, UN Theme Group on AIDS launched it. She emphasized that the campaign is actually the UN family’s contribute to the new UNAIDS vision of 3 zero’s: zero new HIV infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related death.
