Mapping Progress on Women's Rights in Nepal

Over the past two decades, legal reforms have transformed the landscape for gender equality in Nepal, ensuring greater economic security for women, increased legal protection from violence, improved safeguarding of their sexual and reproductive rights and amplification of their voices in decision-making.1 Many challenges, however, still remain and the translation of legal equality into substantive equality for all women and girls in Nepal is yet to be realized.

Journalism Curricula in Nepalese Universities: An Analysis from the Perspective of UNESCO Model Curricula and Media Development Indicators (Nepali)

This book is an outcome of the four months-long study into the state of journalism curricula of the universities of Nepal. The overall objective of the study was to analyze existing curricula of all three universities by comparing them with the indicators developed by UNESCO. The study reveals that the curricula of all three universities were found to be more theory oriented with minimal practical applications, with majority of text books and resource materials were found to be available in English. Very few books and materials authored by Nepali writers have been published.

Nutritional Impact of the Child Grant Working Paper

Using a dataset of 3,750 children in Karnali zone and econometric models, the study investigates the association between the actual amount of the Child Grant (CG) received and nutritional status of children in Karnali zone, Nepal. It was revealed that higher amount of CG is associated with reduction in underweight and severe wasting. For instance, the prevalence of underweight decreased from 42.5 per cent for non-recipients to 34.5 per cent for children who received the full amount of CG, a decrease by 8 percentage points (18.8 percent).

Safe Communities - Free From Violence Against Women and Girls

Sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public spheres are an everyday occurrence for women and girls around the world – in urban and rural areas, in developed and developing countries. In Nepal, the issue of safety of women in public places has not been examined or addressed as a serious issue. In other parts of the world, women's safety has been addressed as an issues of women’s rights and empowerment. The women's safety audit (WSA) has been one important tool to understand the nature and causes of lack of safety in public places.

Tracking Cases of Gender base Violence in Nepal 2013

This report presents the results of a survey of individual, institutional, legal and policy responses to experiences of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Nepal. Through a detailed understanding of the experiences of 6 women who have suffered violence, we have reviewed how and where women seek care and support, and explored reasons for not seeking care. We have reviewed the mechanisms for institutional accountability, collaboration and co-ordination, and have engaged with multiple stakeholders to understand the barriers and opportunities for improving institutional responses.
