An overview of the Eastern Region of Nepal

The Eastern Region (ER) of Nepal has three eco-zones: mountains, mid hills and the Tarai that vary between an altitude of 60 m and 8,848 m. Administratively, the region is divided into three zones (Mechi, Koshi and Sagarmatha), 16 districts, 893 Village Development Committees (VDCs), 1 Sub-metropolitan city, and 13 Municipalities. The ER is home to a mosaic of ethnicities and languages as its population comprises major castes and ethnic groups - Brahman, Chhetri, Rai, Limbu, Tharu, different Madhesi groups and Dalit castes.

An Overview of the Far Western Region of Nepal

The Far Western Region covers 19,539 km2 and comprises two zones, the Seti and Mahakali. It has nine districts with the regional headquarters at Dipayal, Doti district. The Far Western Region is remote and developmentally challenged. Some 44 % of people in the Far West Hills and 49% in the Himalayan districts live beneath the poverty line. The region has limited access to basic services and increasing services is challenging due to the difficult topography. The region has complex socio-economic structures and there is both widespread gender and caste based discrimination.

Disaster Risk Reduction in Nepal Flagship Programmes, April 2011

In May 2009, the Government of Nepal launched the comprehensive Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction Consortium (NRRC). The NRRC is a unique institutional arrangement, bringing together financial institutions, development partners, the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement, and the UN in partnership with the Government of Nepal. It bridges the spectrum of development and humanitarian partners, uniting to support the Government of Nepal in developing a long term Disaster Risk Reduction Action Plan building on the National Strategy for Disaster Risk Management (NSDRM).

The relationship between Transitional Justice mechanisms and the Criminal Justice system

It has recently been enunciated in Nepal in a number of social, political and legal fora that accountability for conflict related human rights and international humanitarian law violations and abuses cannot be undertaken by the regular judicial system, and rather falls in the purview of transitional justice mechanisms.

Nepal’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) sets out a peace-building framework for Nepal’s development partners through its ambitious, transformational agenda on equity, inclusion, accountability, good governance and a restructuring of the state. While elaborated in a political agreement, these ‘root causes’ need to be concretely addressed through long-term development processes and interventions.In recognition of this reality, Nepal’s development partners have developed this Peace and Development Strategy.

Community Perception Report : Reconstruction, Food Security, Livelihood and Protection

The Common Feedback Project (CFP) conducted its first community perception survey of earthquake affected communities between May 1st and May 16th, 2018. Feedback was collected from 2580 households across 31 affected gaunpalikas and nine affected nagarpalikas. The questionnaire included thematic questions around reconstruction, food security and livelihoods as well as protection.

The report monitors global and regional trends in achieving the SDGs for women and girls based on available data, and provides practical guidance for the implementation of gender-responsive policies and accountability processes.

United Nations Development Assistance Framework for Nepal (UNDAF) 2018-2022

The UNDAF 2018-2022 Nepal forms the overall framework for the joint United NationsCountry Team’s work in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and national development priorities. The UNDAF is also a platform upon which diversified expertise and resources of UN agencies can be integrated for the delivery of coherent development programmes.
