Comprehensive Relief Package
As Nepal grapples with a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lives of people in Nepal have been drastically impacted. The most severe consequences are being borne by women, as well as vulnerable and excluded groups. In order to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, UN Women Nepal Country Office (NCO) has developed a comprehensive relief package to support women from excluded groups in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gender Equality Update-31: GESI Mainstreaming in Covid-19 Response: Building Upon Lessons Learned and Good Practices in 2020
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has further magnified the challenges faced by vulnerable groups in Nepal. The Gender in Humanitarian Action Task Team (GiHA-TT), a multi-stakeholder network of Civil Society Organizations, International Development Partners, UN agencies and Government of Nepal, chaired by UN Women Nepal has been actively advancing the incorporation of gender equality and social inclusion into Nepal’s responses to the pandemic. This Gender Equality Update 31 puts together the good practices and lessons learned by the GiHA-TT members in responding to COVID-19 in 2020.
Gender Equality Update-30: Managing the Current Wave of COVID-19 and Preparing for Monsoon Season
Each monsoon season, Nepal becomes particularly vulnerable to floods and landslides caused by heavy rain. This year, experts are predicting that Nepal will receive even more rainfall than normal between June and September. The current wave of COVID-19 has already severely impacted vulnerable populations – and now a heavy monsoon season is likely to further exacerbate their condition. This GE Update focuses on the lessons learned from past years and key recommendations to prepare for monsoon season in light of COVID-19.

Key advocacy messages on gender equality and social inclusion in covid -19 emergency response
The following advocacy messages were endorsed by the HCT on 25 03 2020. They were developed on the basis of the IASC Policy Statement on Gender Equality in Humanitarian Action (November 2017), and in light of lessons learned from the Ebola and Zika outbreaks and emerging gender impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to mobilize inter-agency support within the Nepal Humanitarian Country Team in ensuring these principles are reflected in the emergency response activities in support of the Government of Nepal.
COVID-19 Response Plan Nepal May 2021
After several months of relatively low daily cases in Nepal, COVID-19 cases began to rapidly spike in mid-April, increasing consistently from 152 on 1 April to over 8,000 per day since 5 May. Despite its relatively small population of 29.5 million, Nepal currently finds itself among the countries with the highest daily number of cases in absolute terms. Over 45% of COVID-19 RT-PCR tests are coming back positive.
Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy 2076-Kirtipur Municipality
Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy 2076 has been prepared by Kirtipur Municipality to strengthen institutional arrangement to integrate GESI in policies and provide GESI responsive programming, planning, budgeting, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. The policy was prepared with technical assistance from UNDP Nepal.
