About Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal

Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal is a four-year joint initiative from the Government of Nepal, the European Union, and the United Nations dedicated to advancing gender equality, empowering women, and fostering inclusive growth. It is guided by the national objective for a prosperous and developed Nepal as outlined in Vision 2030 and aligned with the normative frameworks of Nepal, more precisely Gender Equality Policy of the Federal Government of Nepal 2021.

A Joint UN Approach

The Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal (EWPN), under the leadership of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, is a true example of UN reform, bringing together four UN agencies [International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)] and their complementary mandates for a strategic contribution to the achievement of gender equality in Nepal. A co-created effort of the European Union and the United Nations, to translate the commitments to contribute to a gender equal world, the programme provides a unique opportunity to strengthen inter-governmental and intersectoral collaboration for gender equality. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to achieve transformative change for all women and girls in Nepal.
