To mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction on October 13, the Ministry of Home Affairs, DPNet and Nepal Geological Society organized a national symposium on disaster resilience, with the support of UNDP’s Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Programme (CDRMP). At the programme held at the Nepal Tourism Board, discussions revolved around the urgency of disaster risk reduction as a key aspect of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in a climate-vulnerable country like Nepal. Special focus was placed on the impact of disasters on gains made in poverty alleviation in the country, and ways in which human, social, economic and environmental losses can be potentially minimized going forward through improved collaboration between different stakeholders in both advocacy and action.
