HCT and Cluster Coordination in Nepal

The HCT , along with the Executive Committee on Humanitarian Affairs, assists the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator with strategic coordination and consultation mechanisms among key humanitarian actors. It is a unique inter-agency forum for coordination, policy development and decision-making involving key UN and non-UN humanitarian partners. The Nepal IASC was established in April 2006. Members of the HCT are selected UN Agencies and INGOs, and the Red Cross movement. The Nepal HCT meets on a monthly basis or whenever the situation requires.

Members

According to the GA Resolution 46/ 182, the HCT should be composed of “all operational organizations and with a standing invitation to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the International Organization for Migration (when present in the country). Relevant non-governmental organizations can be invited to participate on an ad hoc basis”. It is considered important in Nepal to have those non-governmental organisations regularly attending the HCT -Nepal meetings.
