The Gender Equality in Numbers report consolidates available data on key gender-related Sustainable Development Goal indicators and the minimum set of gender-related indicators for Nepal. It provides an overview of commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment and key statistics in population demographics, health, education, leadership, labour and economic empowerment, poverty reduction and ending all forms of gender based violence.
Gender Equality Update 33 highlights some of the innovative solutions Nepal’s youth have designed and executed during the COVID-19 crisis, such as creating informative podcasts, distributing medical equipment, running awareness campaigns and taking part in government-funded start-ups. It also captures information on the Generation Equality Forum and campaign, that brought together the next generation of women’s rights activists with veteran gender equality advocates and visionaries.
Gender Equality Update-32: Needs and Challenges that Women and Excluded Groups Continue to Experience During the Current Wave of Covid-19
As the current outbreak of COVID-19 continues to impact the most vulnerable communities, the need for effective cooperation and response has increased. The Gender Equality Update 32 is the result of the Gender in Humanitarian Action Task Team (GiHA-TT) meeting, in which Civil Society Organizations, International Development Partners, UN agencies and the Government of Nepal came together to highlight the needs, challenges, good practices and lessons learned in responding to the current wave of COVID-19.
Disease outbreaks affect women and men differently, and epidemics make existing inequalities for women and girls, and discrimination of other marginalized groups such as persons with disabilities and those in extreme poverty, worse. Furthermore, crises and times of unrest have been linked to increased incidence of violence against women and children, and the COVID-19 pandemic is not an exception.
