2016 year marks the 25th year of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender – Based Violence Campaign, initiated in 1991. The global campaign starts November 25 on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against and finishes December 10 on International Human Rights Day.
Given such insecurity and lack of safety in relation to education, and informed by the results of a global survey, the theme of the 16 Days Campaign is “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All”. This theme recognizes that structural discrimination and inequality is perpetuated in a cycle of violence that does not end even when girls and young women are in the act of gaining an education.
Overall Objective: UNCT Gender Theme Group (GTG) annually plans joint activities for 16 Days of Activism. This year GTG, together with UNIC, strives to create a visible social media campaign to gain wide publicity for the Campaign. Patan Durbar Square in Kathmandu, #Nepal goes orange to give visibility to the 16 days of activism against gender based violence campaign. #orangetheworld #16daysofactivism #endgbv
The UNPFN cover the costs for producing the video and oranging the patan durbar square as a member of the GTG, and as part of their advocacy mandate to support violence against women issues.
