Robert Piper has dedicated most of his working life to understanding and addressing the development dimensions of conflict-prevention and peace-building. He started his development career in 1989 with the Australian aid agency, AusAid.
Since 1990, he has served with the United Nations in various field and Headquarters roles, including in Thailand, Cambodia and Fiji, and as Deputy in the UN Development Programme's Emergency Response Division in New York.
From 2002-2004, Robert served as the United Nations Development Coordinator for Kosovo and following the Indian Ocean Tsunami, returned to New York to serve as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery - former US President Bill Clinton.
In 2007, he served as the inaugural Director of the UN’s MDG Achievement Fund before returning to the field in early 2008 as the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nepal.
