This profile of Achham District in the Far-Western Development Region of Nepal was prepared by UN-RCHCO in preparation for the UNDAF 2013-17 implementation cycle. In some areas relevant to the UN and its partners’ work, information is not available at the district level, but this Profile represents a collection of such information based on field research by Dadeldhura Field Coordination Office and centrally accessible documents.

UN RCHCO has prepared UNDAF District Profiles for 23 districts identified as lowest performing on development in the Nepal Country Analysis 2011. People from these districts are among the vulnerable groups whose status will be monitored to assess the impact of the UNDAF 2013-17. The District Profiles provide detailed background information on health services, education, food security, agriculture, employment, gender and social inclusion and other UNDAF areas at local level and can serve as a reference guide to information sources and contact persons relevant to the district.

Transportable Street Art Project

In her UN mural, Kabina Shrestha deals with her conflicting concerns for Nepal. Before learning about the issues in Achham, her main concern fo Nepal was the environment. After researching she realized that "the real need of the people is so different from [her] concern for Nepal." Achham has a very high prevalence of HIV when compared to other districts in the western Nepal, yet "despite many HIV/AIDs programs and campaigns, the public behavior has remained unchanged." Not only that, women often suffer from gender-based and domestic violence, discrimination in education, lack of proper nutrition, and unequal balance of household chores. Her use of the color green represents her concern while the family depicts the actual problem of this district—even though the woman and child are infected with HIV, demonstrated by the color red, the husband still leaves them behind
